Rafael van der Vaart ‘reprimanded’ Rondo presenter Wytse van der Goot during the broadcast on Monday evening. The PSV championship was discussed, after which Ronald Waterreus said that as a young boy you have to absorb this carefully. The Ziggo Sport presenter then turned to Van der Vaart.

“Rafael, you were quite young. Quite early in your career you became champion twice with Ajax,” Van der Goot begins. “I think only once where you were a real starter.” This statement caused the former Ajax player to be surprised. “What are you saying?” he responds. “Or was it both years?” Van der Goot asks.

“You are confused,” said Van der Vaart. “The first year I became champion, I was the top scorer. I only got injured in the winter and then I didn’t play anymore. But yes, if you were the top scorer before the winter and you call this ‘not being a starter’. It’s already been a shit season.”

Van der Vaart may have become champion twice with Ajax, but otherwise the 109-time international has not been a prize winner. “You have to be that honest. I became champion in Denmark, but I think I played six minutes. We don’t count that. I was certainly not a basic player then.”
