Biden assures Netanyahu of Washington’s commitment to Israel’s security

US President Joe Biden has once again assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of his ‘ironclad commitment’ to Israel’s security. The White House reports this. The two leaders spoke by telephone.

Biden and Netanyahu reviewed ongoing talks on a ceasefire in Gaza and prisoner exchanges between Israel and the extremist Palestinian movement Hamas. They also discussed increasing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including opening new northern border crossings starting this week, the White House said.

Biden reiterated what the White House described as his “clear position” on an Israeli ground attack on Rafah. The Americans are against this because of the high risk of civilian deaths in the city in the south of Gaza, which is overwhelmed with Palestinian refugees.
