BREDA – June 1 to 7 is Young Informal Caregiver Week. BredaMantelzorg is once again organizing various activities for young informal caregivers this year. There is also an activity for parents.

About 1 in 4 young people under the age of 24 grows up in a family with care for a parent, brother or sister. For example, because the family member is ill for a long time, has a disability, has psychological problems or is addicted. “For young informal caregivers, their concerns are often so self-evident that they do not even realize that they are informal caregivers. These children and young people have extra care responsibilities at home, are worried or lack the necessary care and attention for themselves. Much more than most people think,” says BredaMantelzorg. Just like Nanette. She is 19, her older brother has autism. When she was younger, she asked little for help and solved more herself: ‘I always thought: go to my brother first and if there is room left, I will be there too. Because I was afraid that if the attention was on me, when he actually needed it, we would end up in a situation that was not pleasant for anyone.’

Activities for every age
The activities are free and there is something fun for every age. “On June 1, we will kick off the Week of the Young Informal Caregiver at BredaMantelzorg with an exhibition of the Kunstkameraden project. Together with real artists, 4 young caregivers created beautiful works of art. Children aged 4 to 12 will play mini golf and eat pancakes at Koeckers in Den Hout. We visit De Uitvindfabriek with children from 6 to 12 years old. And we get a stadium tour at NAC. For parents, we organize an information evening ‘The backpack of a young informal caregiver’ together with Breda Gelijk. And there’s even more to do! Register quickly via bredamantelzorg.nl/weekjmz. Tickets for Breda Live 2024
BredaMantelzorg may give away tickets for the Breda Live festival on July 5 and 6, 2024. The organization of Breda Live sees how important informal caregivers are and is therefore giving away 40 free tickets. Especially for (young) informal caregivers in Breda aged 18 and older. You can register until April 30 via www.bredamantelzorg.nl/bredalive. The winners will be notified no later than May 3.
