Inflation decreased to 2.7 percent in April. This is reported by statistics agency CBS. This decline is mainly due to energy prices and prices at the pump.

Statistics Netherlands estimates that inflation in April will therefore be lower than in previous months. In March, daily life became 3.1 percent more expensive. In February this was still 2.8 percent and in January 3.2 percent. The figure is always a comparison with the year before.

The fact that inflation is cooling down is mainly due to energy prices and gas station prices. For example, energy prices and prices at the pump rose less rapidly in April than in March. On the other hand, we spent more on food, drinks and tobacco in April compared to last month.

The estimated inflation figure from Statistics Netherlands is based on the consumer price index (CPI). But the European calculation method also shows decreasing inflation. Dutch inflation stood at 2.6 percent. The difference between these calculation methods is that the European Union does not take the costs of a home into account.

Nieuwe methode
