King Charles is pleased that he has resumed his public duties. The monarch joked during a visit to a military school in Surrey on Thursday that he was glad he could “get out of the cage”. Charles (75) has been making working visits again since last week after resigning from his public work in February. The monarch was diagnosed with cancer.

The king’s visit was only known to the school a few days in advance. Charles apologized for that. “I’m sorry I surprised you. When I got this opportunity and was allowed out of my cage, I wanted to come and have a look,” he said, according to British media.

At the school, Charles spoke with soldiers who are training there, their relatives and teachers. According to those present, the king was in good spirits during the visit.

“I told him I had three children and he said liquor helps with that,” one woman said of her conversation with Charles. “He is a very nice person and enjoys talking to you. It was not a short chat, we went into depth during our conversation,” someone else reflected.
