The death of a 17-year-old black student in the northern Turkish town of Karabük continues to stir emotions in Gabon. The African country is demanding a “thorough investigation” into the death of Jeannah Danys Dinabongho Ibouanga last year.
According to her lawyer, the Gabonese woman was sexually abused by a group of men who then murdered her. This is what the Turkish news site reports Duvar.
The student stayed at the Karabük University compound last year. She would
were last seen fleeing for her life from the apartment building.
There were initially eight suspects in the murder case. After the third session there is only one left
suspect, but there is still no judgment from the judge.
A group of Turkish feminists, ‘Femists for Dina’, are also standing up for the Gabonese
student. They see death as an extension of the many cases of ‘femicide’, but also
racism in Turkey. The number of femicides and migrant murders has increased rapidly in recent years.
“The road to Dina’s death is paved with racism and patriarchy,” says Damla Ayar,
spokesperson for the feminist group.
