Finally found a solution for Aviary management in Hoorn.
The management of our aviary on the Pakhuisstraat will be transferred to the De Woid petting zoo next Tuesday. For a long time our aviary was threatened with closure. Volunteers Con van Eikeren and Jouke Bron indicated some time ago that they wanted to stop their work as volunteers. They are both well over 70, so as far as they are concerned it was time for succession. However, the latter turned out to be quite a challenge. Unfortunately, volunteers could not be found, which threatened the survival of our much-loved aviary.
Many did not leave it at that. Our iconic aviary that so many grew up with and which is still enjoyed every day by our residents, of course had to stay!
Social media was flooded with calls for volunteers. The local political party EenHoorn also asked questions to councilor René Assendelft about the future of our aviary.
The signal to the municipality was clear: a solution had to be found!
That solution has now finally arrived: the volunteers from the De Woid petting zoo are taking over the tasks of the Hoorn Bird Friends Foundation. Eenhoorn is happy with this solution!
