Video platform TikTok is doing much more in its home country of China to combat addiction among children. This is what American lawyers say who are preparing hundreds of lawsuits against parent company ByteDance. They see an improvement in the Chinese version compared to the American version and demand more information about this difference, according to a complaint.
However, ByteDance keeps that door closed and claims that sharing that data is not relevant to this American case. The group says there is a different version of the app in each region to meet “different laws, cultures and priorities.”
The company behind the popular platform has said it has already committed to examining internal documents to compare the American version with others. “But there is no need to conduct a broad investigation into TikTok in more than 150 countries, let alone an investigation into applications we use only in China,” ByteDance said in the joint complaint.
