It’s not long to wait for the first mountain stage of the Giro d’Italia 2024. On day two it’s already a hit with the arrival on the Santuario di Oropa, a first category climb. Will the classification men keep their powder dry or can they resist the temptation of a possible victory of the day? Tom Dumoulin was the last winner here, and with an stimulated Tadej Pogacar at the start, the Limburger could well have a strong successor.

With two third category climbs, first the Oasi Zegna (5.7 km at 5.1%)then the Nelva (3 km at 6.6%) and an arrival on top of the Santuario di Oropa (11.8 km at 6.2%) There are already quite a lot of altitude meters on the program on day two. The 161 kilometer long ride has an elevation gain of 2,300 metres. After yesterday’s difficult ride, today will only be harder.

Sunday May 5, Stage 2: San Francesco al Campo – Santuario di Oropa (161 km)

Finish: between 4:55 PM and 5:30 PM
