Sending a letter via PostNL will become more expensive from July 1. From that date you will pay 1.14 euros for a stamp. That is now still 1.09 euros. According to the postal company, the increase is necessary because it is dealing with higher wage costs.

Another factor is that people and companies are sending less and less mail. At the same time, PostNL is obliged to deliver letters five days a week. In order to continue to do this, an increase is necessary, the company says.

The price for a letter abroad will also increase, from 1.75 euros to 1.80 euros. Sending a registered letter will now cost you an extra euro. The price for sending a package remains the same at PostNL.

The postal company will of course issue a December stamp again in November this year. These can be purchased at that time for 1.06 euros. That is 10 cents more than last winter’s 0.96 euros.

“Personnel costs, around 80 percent of our total costs, have risen sharply in recent years at a time when fewer and fewer letters are being sent,” says Maurice Unck, Director of Mail at PostNL. According to him, this combination puts enormous pressure on the company.

“We do not like having to confront consumers with this interim rate change. However, it is necessary because we still deliver the mail five days a week, but there is much less mail and the costs are increasing.”
