The suspect in the country’s largest online abuse case will be sentenced today. 25-year-old Gianni de W. from Etten-Leur is on trial in Breda for online abuse of thirty mostly underage girls.

The Public Prosecution Service has demanded seven years in prison and TBS against De W. The man collected nude images of mostly underage girls for years and used them to extort money.

This would involve a total of 172 victims, but the case is limited to 30 victims who have filed a report. The investigation started with a report from a girl from North Holland who was fifteen years old when she was extorted. The youngest victim was twelve years old.

The man came into contact with his victims via social media. Under fake names such as Bryan.snapx and Bryansnelgeld, he allegedly offered the girls money for sending a nude photo.

But he never paid. He did threaten to distribute the images if they did not send more material. This is online abuse and is known as sextortion.

Biggest sextortion case to date

More than 187,000 images were found on De W.’s phone. A second phone contained about 130,000 photos. The suspect stored thousands of photos on hard drives in folders with girls’ names.

The W. has largely known. He instructed the girls on what to do and how to pose. One victim had to have sex with another person and film it for him. Among the victims are former good friends of De W. and his ex-girlfriend.
