Brunssum GP who raped patients is no longer allowed to practice | Domestic

--

A general practitioner from Brunssum in Limburg may never practice his profession again, the Disciplinary Board for Healthcare in Den Bosch has determined. The 55-year-old man raped several patients. He convinced them that what he was doing was medically necessary.

Last month, the Brunssum GP was sentenced on appeal to seven years in prison for several rapes. In addition, the court imposed a fourteen-year ban on his profession.

The Healthcare and Youth Inspectorate received seven reports of inappropriate behavior by the man between 2017 and last year. After the first complaint, he was suspended once. Then he made the mistake again. For example, he penetrated victims’ vaginas with his fingers during physical examinations. At least two victims were over eighty years old.

The court previously said that the man, as a general practitioner, abused a relationship of trust. He is said to have forced one of his victims to tolerate sexual acts in the confined space of the treatment room. The court called this a very serious violation of the physical and mental integrity of the victim.

The man himself has always maintained that he has done nothing wrong, but the disciplinary board and the court do not believe that.
