AMSTERDAM – On Monday, the public prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of 29 years and nine months against a 43-year-old man from Amsterdam. He is suspected, among other things, of ordering a liquidation, which resulted in the death of Djordy Latumahina on October 8, 2016, with serious injuries to his girlfriend. Latumahina was driving a car similar to that of the intended target.

The fatal shooting took place in the parking garage beneath the victim’s apartment complex. His girlfriend was seriously injured, while their two-year-old daughter sat in a child seat in the back seat and narrowly escaped the bullets. Five people have previously been convicted for their involvement in the murder and attempted murder of the victim’s girlfriend and daughter.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the police investigation, including witness statements and analysis of encrypted PGP messages, provides sufficient evidence that the suspect ordered the murder. He is also suspected of preparing another liquidation and leading a criminal organization focused on violent crimes. The suspect, who is in court today, is accused of planning a murder in Berlin in 2015 together with others. Decrypted messages reveal his involvement in the plans, in which he emphasized the importance of the murder and arranged payments and telephones for his co-suspects.

The public prosecutor emphasized in her argument that preparing liquidations and leading a criminal organization are serious crimes, but that the murder of Djordy Latumahina is of a different order. According to her, the violent and ruthless behavior of the suspects has caused irreparable suffering to Latumahina’s relatives. The suspect was arrested in Spain on May 23, 2021 and extradited to the Netherlands on June 7, 2021, where he has been detained since then. Because the substantive hearing of the case against the suspect only took place today, the reasonable period has been exceeded. The officer therefore reduced her sentence by three months, bringing the sentence to 29 years and nine months in prison.
