Many bars were without beer due to the PSV party, hoping for another great day

--

The Eindhoven catering industry had a great day on Sunday. Thanks to the title that PSV won, it was extremely busy in the city center. The bars were overflowing and soon most establishments had completely run out of drinks. A week’s turnover has been achieved in many places in one day. That bodes well for today, because the champion team will soon be honored and the party will start again in Eindhoven.

Anyone walking through the Philips Stadium on Monday will often hear the sound of vacuum cleaners. There is still confetti everywhere from the day before. PSV became national champions and that resulted in one big party.

While the remains of the party are still being cleaned up and the city center is filling up with supporters again, Ruud Bakker of the Royal Horeca Netherlands (KHN) is beaming. Sunday was not only a wonderful day for the club and supporters. The party was also a success for the Eindhoven catering industry.

“This was great to experience,” says the chairman of the Eindhoven branch of KHN. His business De Lounge is also in the stadium. And like many other entrepreneurs, Bakker had underestimated Sunday’s crowds. “Many businesses had not purchased enough drinks and had to quickly order more. A beer brewer drove around with five tankers to be able to supply extra to the catering industry,” says Bakker.

Nevertheless, many establishments quickly ran out of liquor supplies. “There was simply no more beer available. I don’t think we’ve ever experienced that before.” On the Market, cafes have even closed at half past seven in the evening because they had run out of drinks.

Great to experience, says Bakker with a big smile on his face. “The city was flooded. Around eleven o’clock in the evening the city was almost completely full. I have never experienced it so busy before.” Despite the crowds, the atmosphere remained good. “I think it’s great that it has remained very pleasant.”

Bakker hopes that Monday will be just as good a day. In the afternoon the city center is already full of supporters who come to PSV’s celebration. From five o’clock the flat cart with the team moves through the center. “We’re trying to make it another success today.”

The catering industry has prepared extra for the crowds, in the hope that the drink supply will not run out again. “I think everyone will make an extra effort today. All businesses and tankers will be filled again by now. Hopefully it will be just as massive and fun a party as yesterday. Although the weather gods are a little less kind to us.”

As far as Bakker is concerned, PSV can win the title again next year. “Let’s hope we have a party like that again next year!”
