In the third stage of the Giro d’Italia it is the sprinters’ turn. That is good news for David Dekker, but the Dutchman from Arkéa-B&B Hotels will not be played by his team today. “Today we are pulling Jenthe Biermans’ card.”

These are the words of Dekker, just before the start, in conversation with Eurosport. “The team sees more opportunities for Jenthe today, with that climb at the end. We are really going to take it day by day in this Giro. It will depend on how we feel.”

Last Saturday, Dekker’s feeling was not too good in the opening stage to Turin. “I started the Giro with a very bad day. I really had to get into it and that’s why I came in last that day,” said Dekker, who is currently last (175th) in the general classification.

Positioning
Dekker also has something to say about today’s final. “There is still that climb in the final. But if you are well positioned, this does not have to cause too many problems. Positioning is very important today, because then you can save a lot of energy,” he said.
