Power restored to hundreds of thousands of families in Ukraine after Russian attacks

Hundreds of thousands of families left without power due to Russian night attacks in the Soumy region in northeastern Ukraine have electricity restored. A regional operator confirmed this on Monday.
The Russian attacks left more than 400,000 homes without electricity, the Energy Ministry said. On Monday afternoon, about 15,000 customers in the Soumy region were still without power, a regional electricity company reported.
Moscow has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s energy network, causing power cuts and electricity rationing. For example, since March the Russians have been bombarding Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, in the eastern border region of the same name. The metropolis, only about forty kilometers from the Russian border, is therefore sometimes completely without electricity and heating. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accuses Russia of trying to drive away people in the city and the region with rocket attacks and bombings.
The Soumy and Kharkiv regions, which border Russia, have also been increasingly targeted recently. Ukraine is concerned about a possible offensive in this part of its territory.
The Russian army is advancing on the eastern front, without forcing any real breakthroughs for the time being. Ukraine, which is struggling with acute shortages of ammunition and manpower, is waiting for the delivery of the much-needed package of weapons and ammunition worth billions from the United States.
