VoV, 07-05-2024. 5:15 am. The Dutch ladies played last night in various formations and a practice match against Romania, which will play in the European Golden League next summer. The Netherlands is preparing for the important VNL competition, although only two players were active yesterday, who will probably be part of the VNL selection.

The Netherlands played with the following players, who came within the lines of the five-setter for a short or longer period of time:

  • Division: Sarah van Aalen, Hyke Lyklema, Sanne Konijnenberg
  • Liberos: Hester Jasper, Pippa Molenaar.
  • Diagonals: Iris Scholten, Nicole van de Vosse
  • Mid players: Juliët Lohuis, Britte Stuut, Marije ten Brinke, Suus Gerritsen.
  • Passer Runners: Jet Vos, Fleur Savelkoel, Susan Schut, Romy Brokking, Sjakkie Donkers, who in our opinion was not on the long list of the national coach Felix Koslowski who was sitting in the stands.

The Dutch had to chase hard for a number of sets to reach a five-setter.

Van Aalen served in the opening set The Dutch team made it 3-0, Iris Scholten and Jet Kok then scored until 12-7, the moment Romania went to the sidelines. The Dutch team struck out after the restart, Fleur Savelkoel and Jet Kok lifted the score to 15-8, the Dutch error serve interrupted the run, after which Iris Scholten and Juliët Lohuis again provided the side out and a break point.

The Dutch team entered the timeout at 17-13, Romania came back to 19-17 and managed to put the 21-18 on the scoreboard after a long and beautiful rally with spectacular saves. Juliët Lohuis scored three of the last four points for the Netherlands, with a Romanian error serve and her ace the set ended 25-20.

In set two, the Dutch had an early one at 5-5 1-3 behind. Stuut, Savelkoel, Lohuis and Kok scored the side out points up to 10-11, then the Dutch team conceded a series of eight points, with the time out for the Dutch team at 10-14. Many passing errors made it easy for Romania to go ahead. From 10-19 the difference became ten points at 13-23. Nicole van de Vosse recovered the serve (14-23) and then Fleur Savelkoel and Britte Stuut (ace) scored to 18-24. An error serve ended the set at 18-25.

It played a leading role in the third set Apollo 8 mid Marije ten Brinke. After the 3-3, the Netherlands fell behind 3-10, narrowed the difference to 6-10, but conceded two points after the Romanian time out (6-12). The fast mid combination of Aalen/ten Brinke made 7-12, after which Romania scored twice again. (7-14)

At 8-14, Marije ten Brinke served and on her serves, Romania’s passing line went completely through the hooves. After three block points (by Susan Schut, Sarah van Aalen and Juliët Lohuis) and three aces from Marije and a few errors from Romania, she served the Netherlands to 19-15. An error serve concluded the series. Juliët Lohuis scored the 23-17 with a first tempo ball, after which Marije ten Brinke with two block points brought the set for the Netherlands to 25-17.

In set four, Romania took a 0-3 leadAfter beautiful attacks over mid, the score was equal again at 3-3. Two gifts after 4-7 gave Romania a 4-9 lead, at 5-10 Sjakkie Donkers made her appearance, a Dutch point later Suus Gerritsen came in line. Romania, however, thundered through and expanded the lead to seven points (8-15), Sjakkie Donkers managed to score a number of points (12-17, 14-19), but the guests went ahead with a three-pointer after 15-20 to again a very large difference of eight points at 15-23. They then forced the fifth set with 16-25.

After the Dutch time out at 2-6 in During the tiebreak, Donkers (2x) and Konijnenberg, with an ace, scored the subsequent points to 5-6. Suus Gerritsen (2x) and a rock-solid ace from Susan Schut ensured an 11-11 score after the field change. The Netherlands took a lead for the first time in the fifth set at 13-12, through a clumsy Romanian misunderstanding the Dutch team reached set point at 14-12, Romania was able to postpone the loss once before Sjakkie Donkers decided the set 15-13.

Just mention which players from the long list, except van Aalen and Lohuis did not play, which may be a pointer to the VNL selection, which leaves for Poland on Sunday.
