Sheep herder Boy Groot is looking for witnesses and tips. On Sunday afternoon he found one of his lambs dead on the Oostdijk; the animal was probably shot with an air rifle.
Groot and his father have about 150 sheep and lambs, which graze the Oostdijk around Noord-Scharwoude, Zuid-Scharwoude and Broek op Langedijk. There are signs on the dike with the telephone number of the shepherds.
On Liberation Day he received a call around 2 p.m.: one of his lambs was dead on the dike behind the Kingdom of the Thousand Islands. He went straight there. “It was a black one that used to be perfectly healthy.”
Young lambs die more often. “But there was blood coming from her mouth and nose. That’s strange, even in a weak sheep or lamb you don’t see that.”
If he looks closely, he sees that the animal has an entrance and exit wound. Groot suspects that the lamb was shot with an air rifle.
He has already reported the incident to the police, but is still looking for tips and witnesses. “I have already visited local residents, but they had not seen anything.”
Anyone who knows more can contact the police (0900-8844). The lamb was probably shot on Sunday morning or around lunchtime.
