TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The search for a 57-year-old German national, Ralf Klausnitzer, continues after he went missing in Taroko National Park’s Tianxiang area at the end of March.

Xincheng Police Precinct said Klausnitzer arrived at a Hualien hotel on March 25 and visited Taroko National Park the following day. After searching his cell phone records, police located his position in the Tianxiang area at 7 am on March 26, per CNA.

Xincheng Police Precinct searched for Klausnitzer, visiting hotels, hiking trails, hot springs, and other areas on April 15, 17, 29, 30, and May 7.

During a Hualien County Council meeting on Monday (May 6), a councilor asked if people were still missing after the April 3 earthquake. Hualien County Fire Department Director-General Wu Zhao-yuan (吳兆遠) responded that a German man disappeared before the quake and that his status was unrelated to the tremor.

Friends of Klausnitzer have posted to various Facebook groups to search for him. Klausnitzer is a German literature scholar who gave a lecture at Tamkang University. After the lecture, and before his trip back to Germany, he planned a short excursion to Hualien.
