Marco Reus has said that Borussia Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final — which will be his final match for the club — is “indescribable”.

The 34-year-old will leave the club at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract. His departure will conclude a 12-year spell at Dortmund, who he rejoined from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, and this season’s will be his second Champions League final with the club after defeat to Bayern Munich in 2013, also at Wembley.

Reus came on as a 56th minute substitute in Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory in Paris, which clinched a 2-0 aggregate victory for Dortmund over PSG and sealed their place in the final.

“Indescribable,” Reus said after the match when asked to sum up what the achievement meant for him.

“After more than 10 years, I am in the final with Borussia again. Ousmane (Dembele) and Achraf (Hakimi) brought a tremendous amount of pace and we suffered a lot.

“How we won the game, no one will ask tomorrow. Shots against the post won’t matter tomorrow. What counts is that Borussia Dortmund is in the final again. Nobody expected this. It’s just incredible. Today it was clear that we needed to suffer and that we needed some luck, but what the lads did was crazy, crazy.”

During his time at Dortmund, Reus has won two DFB-Pokals, two German Supercups and played an integral role in his side reaching the Champions League final in 2013. He was also named footballer of the year in Germany in 2012 and 2019.

Real Madrid hosts Bayern Munich in the second leg of the other semi-final this evening, with the aggregate score balanced at 2-2.
