Young goose injured after truck accident

Poeldijk 08.05.2024 – The Loosduinen fire brigade was called on Wednesday evening around 7.45 pm due to an animal in trouble at the ABC Westland site in Poeldijk.

Around 6 p.m., a driver drove his truck through the auction site, where a number of geese were walking around.

One of them, a young goose, was hit by the truck and injured. However, the driver continued driving. A witness saw it and called Westland animal ambulance. Theo de Wijs arrived on the scene, but the cub was now in the ditch with its parents.

The help of the sprayers from Loosduinen was then requested, who drove the trio over the ditch to a corner of the ditch with a rope. A ladder in the water was intended to prevent the geese from fleeing into the culvert.

With a bit of luck, the men managed to catch the injured cub quite quickly. He had injuries to his wing and a leg. The goose was immediately taken to the De Wulp bird shelter for treatment.
