WVV is doing surprisingly well in the first division this season. The Winschoters compete with HZVV and Oranje Nassau for the championship. Trainer Gerard Wiekens is the architect of the new WVV. He talks about it in the amateur football podcast Tikkie Breed.
For years, WVV was known for work football and players who cursed each other, the opponent and the referee. That has all changed under trainer Gerard Wiekens. The Winschoters play good football and have become civilized gentlemen.
Champion, no promotion
Wiekens hopes to become the surprise champion of the first division with WVV, but is actually not looking forward to promotion to the fourth division. The coach is having a great time in the current, challenging competition.
Before Wiekens entered the coaching profession, he was a professional football player at BV Veendam and Manchester City. He played at the latter club for seven years and is still a regular guest. He recently extended his contract with WVV and he has no great ambitions to work elsewhere, but when his old love Manchester City calls for a coaching position within the club, the Wiekens family packs their suitcases today.
Urine shower
In the podcast, Henk Mulder talks about a urine shower he received last week at a football match in Denmark, Wim Hegen tests the meatball from FC Meppel and André van den Ende discusses The Knickerbockers in the Club of the Week section.
