This year, the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest is letting the delegations make their own introductory films of the participants, the so-called postcards. That is a lot more environmentally friendly and the videos also become more personal, thinks the Swedish broadcaster SVT.

“We have come up with a fun challenge for the postcards this year”

“We have come up with a fun challenge for the postcards this year. What if the videos were sent to us instead of us going to them to save the environment – and money -? After all, they are ‘postcards’,” says TV- producer Per Blankens. According to him, all participants have been instructed to shoot their video in ‘selfie mode’.

In previous years, artists for the postcards were often brought to the organizing country or the broadcaster visited all participating countries to film. When the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Rotterdam in 2021, it was shot in the Netherlands. The artists were later incorporated digitally because traveling was discouraged due to corona.

The postcards are used as an introductory video during the broadcast. In the meantime, the artist can get ready on stage and the commentators can talk about the next act.
