TRIPTIS – [update 19:05 uur] An exceptional transport, loaded with a tram, slid down a 10 meter deep slope along the German A9 in the night from Monday to Tuesday. The accident happened on the A9 in the direction of Munich near Triptis.

The 53-year-old truck driver lost control of the wheel for unknown reasons and drove straight through the crash barrier. The truck slid down, loaded and all. Both the tractor and the tram overturned.

The cargo was on its way from Helberstadt to Mannheim. According to the police, the material damage amounts to around 2.5 million euros.

The salvage proved to be difficult due to the dimensions and weight of the cargo and the distance to a suitable salvage point, the police said on Tuesday evening.

To be able to recover the 42 meter long tram, it is divided into five segments by a specialized company. The recovery company will then put the wagons upright and lift them out of the bosses with a crane, the same applies to the truck and its trailer involved in the accident.

Five associated low-loaders are available for transport.

The Rodaborn car park towards Munich is necessary to carry out the recovery safely and is therefore completely closed.

Two right-hand lanes are closed at the scene of the accident. The left lane must remain passable except for some short-term closures. The work at the scene of the accident will certainly take several hours.
