Ronald de Boer thinks that Ronald Koeman would do well to take him to the European Championship in Germany. The analyst provides information in his analysis Ziggo Sportsprior to the Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain (1-0), explains the qualities of the Dutch left back.

Due to the injury of Quilindschy Hartman, a ‘vacancy’ appears to have become available in the Dutch selection, according to De Boer. “Then of course you have Daley Blind and Nathan Aké. In my opinion, Aké is a left central defender, Blind can play at left back against ‘lesser teams’,” says the analyst.

“I think, especially when you play with five defenders, that Maatsen can fill that in great. He has speed, strength but also technique. Sometimes things go wrong defensively, but in my eyes this is a modern left back. He always wants to move forward,” De Boer continues.

Maatsen was called up to the main squad of the Dutch national team in October, but has not yet played an official match. The question is whether Koeman is monitoring the development of the left back and whether Maatsen is a candidate for the European Championship selection.
