Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports that an English tourist was watching the waves in San Esteban de Pravia, on the north coast of Spain, when he fell into the water and was swept away by a wave. His body was recovered from the water after 50 minutes.

Slammed against the rocks

Less than 7 kilometers further, approximately the same thing happened: in Cudillero, a woman walking through the harbor was pulled into the sea by a wave, according to witnesses. She was then smashed against the rocks by the waves and was pulled unconscious from the water by a fishing boat. Emergency services could no longer do anything for her.

The other two deaths occurred in Tarragona, south of Barcelona. According to the Civil Guard, a boy between the ages of 15 and 17 fell into the sea there and was unable to get out. A 32-year-old German who saw this happen jumped into the water to save the boy. But both were swept away by the waves and died.

Storm Nelson is accompanied by heavy rain, snow in some areas and especially wind gusts of between 80 and 100 kilometers per hour. Waves that have been measured were up to 7 meters high.
