The accident happened last night in the Australian neighborhood of Clyde North, Victoria. In a hotel swimming pool, a 2-year-old girl fell into the pool around 6:45 p.m. Her father and grandfather didn’t think twice and jumped after them.

But according to Australian media, they then got into trouble themselves in the deep part of the pool.

Help was no longer of any use

According to a spokesperson for the emergency services, bystanders then tried to save the men. But when they were taken out of the water, resuscitation was no longer useful. The men had drowned. It is unclear exactly how this could have happened.

The 2-year-old girl was pulled from the water without injuries and is in good condition.

“It was an extremely emotional scene,” the spokesperson told Australian broadcaster ABC. “Especially because not one but two family members suddenly died.”

The spokesperson calls on everyone to remain alert around swimming pools: “We are seeing an increase in the number of drownings in and around the Easter weekend and around school holidays. So be careful, especially if you are not a good swimmer.”
