World Central Kitchen (WCK) resumes its activities in Gaza. The aid organization had ceased its activities in early April after seven employees were killed by an Israeli attack on an aid convoy.

WCK states on its website that the organization will carry out the activities with the same energy as before the attack. The organization has decided to resume work due to the serious humanitarian situation in Gaza.

“To date, we have distributed more than 43 million meals,” the WCK wrote in its statement. “We would like to deliver millions more.”

According to WCK, there are 276 trucks with almost eight million meals ready. These could enter the Gaza Strip at any time via the Rafah border crossing. The aid organization is also looking at options to supply Gaza via a sea route that is currently being set up.

In the statement, WCK also looks back on the Israeli attack that killed seven employees. “The Israeli military has apologized for the attack, calling it a ‘serious mistake’. While we have no guarantees, we continue to call for better protection for all aid workers.”

The aid organization continues to call for an independent investigation into the attack. Israel has previously indicated that it was a mistake. Two senior military officers have been fired over the attack.
