A police officer in the west of Suriname shot at a duck thief last Wednesday. This after he allegedly attacked the officer with a sharp object.

Earlier in the day, a woman in the Waldeck resort in Nickerie reported the theft of two male ducks from her chicken coop. According to the complainant, she saw through her camera images that there were two men at her chicken coop and immediately went to her coop.

When they saw the owner, the two suspects fled. The complainant spotted the suspected RA later in the day on Nabidjan Sardha Street with a white jute bag in his possession.

When he saw the complainant, he took off running and left the bag containing the two drakes behind. It later turned out that these two drakes had been taken from the chicken coop of the complainant TN.

A little later, the suspect RA, together with the other suspect WR, was again seen by local residents in the area of ​​Djakartaweg. They then chased the pair.

A police officer, who lives in the area and was aware of the situation, also investigated and saw that local residents had surrounded WR on a vacant plot on Djakartaweg.

The suspected RA had once again managed to escape. The police officer ordered WR to stop, but he attacked the law officer with a sharp object, forcing the police officer to use gun violence.

The 24-year-old suspect WR was hit in the leg. WR was taken to Mungra Medical Center (MMC) for medical treatment and is under police guard at the hospital.

He was brought to trial and taken into custody by the police after consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service. Work is underway to arrest his companion RA.
