The Dutch soil research company Fugro has sunk on the Damrak.
The company was down more than 27 percent at noon, after reporting from the research program Pointer this weekend that the company may have caused Brazil’s deadly 2019 mining disaster. Fugro calls Pointer’s reporting one-sided.
Dam burst
Fugro was carrying out drilling work in the dam on behalf of the Brazilian mining company Vale. Four company employees were killed. According to Pointer, a police report states that those drilling operations were the cause of the dam breach.
Pointer also refers to an independent research report from May this year, in which a Spanish research organization cites the drilling activities as a possible cause of the breakthrough.
‘One-sided and suggestive’
Fugro calls the broadcast one-sided and suggestive. A spokesperson for the company refers to previous investigations that have been completed and no action has been taken towards Fugro. Fugro also says that there is no new information in Pointer’s reporting.
The Brazilian court is investigating the case, the company says. “We are working on this and as long as there is no outcome, we cannot provide an explanation.”
