BUNNIK (ANP) – Sales of caravans and campers in the Netherlands grew considerably in the first quarter of this year. As a result, more of those campers are driving on Dutch roads.

According to trade association KCI, 1,681 new caravans were registered in the first three months of the year, 11.5% more than in the same period last year. Sales of campers also increased by 6.2%.

Record

In total, the Netherlands now has a record number of 615,981 caravans and campers. That is more than 11,000, or almost 2 percent, more than a year ago.

“We will have the 200,000th camper in the Netherlands this year, which means roughly a doubling compared to ten years ago. Especially since corona, the popularity of camping has accelerated,” says KCI chairman Leo Diepemaat.

According to him, the latter is also noticeable in the total figures for the caravans. “Previously, those numbers decreased at about the same rate as the camper population increased. But in recent years, this decline has virtually come to a standstill and private caravans are proving to be very popular again.”

Diepemaat also says the industry has resolved previous supply issues. “This means there is plenty of choice for consumers again.”
