The city of Baltimore has sued the owner of the cargo ship that recently rammed a major bridge in the city. The Key Bridge collapsed, six people died.

According to the city, the ship, the Dali, was clearly not ready to sail. The companies responsible, Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited, are being sued for negligence.

‘Not seaworthy’

“None of this should have happened at all,” said an attorney representing the city. “This is due to gross negligence, recklessness and because the ship was not seaworthy.”

The ship was said to have suffered from an ‘inconsistent power supply’, which had not been investigated or remedied.

‘Crew members not properly trained’

This was also visible in the images of the accident. The ship suffered a power failure and became adrift. You can see the images below:

In addition to the technical shortcomings, the crew members were also not sufficiently trained, the lawyers say. “It was an incompetent crew that lacked proper training.”

Six road workers dead

The lawyer for Synergy Marine, the company behind the cargo ship, has not yet responded to the case. He wants to wait until the investigation is completed.

Six road workers died in the accident. They were on the bridge in the middle of the night repairing holes in the road surface. Because the ship gave a distress signal, a large part of the traffic could be stopped, which prevented further casualties.
