ASML would like to expand in Veldhoven and the Eindhoven region in the long term. But the chip machine manufacturer also has an alternative plan. Financial director Roger Dassen said this at the company’s shareholders’ meeting.

The Association of Securities Owners asked whether ASML has sufficient room to grow in North Brabant and whether there is an alternative plan. “Of course we have a plan B, but we are happy to expand here because of what Veldhoven and Eindhoven have to offer,” Dassen said. “The Dutch government also clearly recognizes the conditions we need to grow.”

ASML expects to grow rapidly and has requested guarantees from the Dutch governments that there is enough space and opportunities for expansion.

The Veldhoven group and the municipality of Eindhoven concluded an agreement of intent earlier this week for a possible large-scale expansion of the chip machine manufacturer. According to both parties, the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven is suitable for this.

Expansion should create an additional 20,000 jobs

The possible expansion of BIC, which is currently being investigated by ASML, would create space for around twenty thousand jobs. The company is currently facing major investment decisions for further expansion. ASML therefore wants to expand as close as possible to the existing factory in Veldhoven.

ASML therefore appears to have chosen to remain in the Netherlands. The group previously indicated that it may expand outside our country, because the business climate here threatens to become too unfavorable. This has to do, among other things, with the discussion surrounding the reduction of labor migration. Many knowledge workers from abroad work at ASML.

Wednesday was the last working day of CEO Peter Wennink. He took the helm at ASML in 2013. The group has since experienced enormous growth and is an important player in the chip industry. Wennink is succeeded by the Frenchman Christophe Fouquet.
