The Chinese Great Wall Motor is launching a new off-road vehicle: the Haval Raptor Hi4. That name reminds us of Ford’s Raptor family, but the design leaves nothing to the imagination. It turns out to be a shameless copy of the Land Rover Defender.
We already proved that the Chinese car market does not take intellectual property rights very seriously when we wrote about these six copycats. The Haval Raptor Hi4 is also a good candidate for that list. Just like the Ora and Wey brands (which are already operating in Europe), Haval is also a sub-brand of the Chinese car giant Great Wall Motor. Haval focuses on SUVs
Design copied from the Land Rover Defender
The Haval Raptor Hi4 is such an SUV, although it can easily be confused with the Land Rover Defender. Not only does the angular design look strikingly similar to that of the iconic off-road vehicle, the flattened round headlights, taillights and even the interior also appear to have been lifted from the Land Rover drawing board.
The British will not be happy about this. But hey, what do you do about it? It is possible to combat European imports, but the car is intended for the Chinese market and you should file a lawsuit there.
Haval Raptor Hi4 for sale in China at a bargain price
The Haval Raptor Hi4 is a plug-in hybrid and is offered from 165,800 Chinese renminbi, which equates to around 21,400 euros. A fraction of what a real Land Rover Defender costs there.
Under the hood you will find a 167 hp 1.5-liter engine that is supported by two electric motors. The front electric motor is good for 95 hp, while the motor on the rear axle produces no less than 204 hp.
Full electric range
The battery packs in the Haval Raptor Hi4 are between 19 and 27.5 kWh and the all-electric range varies between 102 and 145 kilometers. This was measured according to the not very accurate Chinese measuring method. Not that you will lose any sleep over this, because unless you decide to emigrate to China, you will not be able to buy this dirt-cheap Land Rover Defender clone.
