The top speed in MotoGP will be reduced from 2027 due to the introduction of engines with less power. It is a measure to increase safety in the premier class of motorsport.
The cylinder capacity of the engines will increase from 1000cc to 850cc in three years. According to the organization, the lighter engines make the sport safer, but also more sustainable and efficient.
The intention is that the engines will run on 100 percent sustainable fuel from 2027 and that the maximum number of engine blocks that a driver may use in one season will be reduced from seven to six.
The MotoGP also intervenes in the field of aerodynamics. Teams have invested a lot in this in recent years, but it has not helped the sport in increasing the tension.
By imposing numerous aerodynamic restrictions from 2027, the battlefield will become somewhat more level. According to MotoGP, it will promote overtaking actions and also make the rider’s skills more important.
The current MotoGP season is four races underway. The first and fourth Grand Prix were won by world champion Francesco Bagnaia. Spaniard Jorge Martín is in the lead in the World Cup standings. The Assen TT is on June 30.
