Autovisie is at the Beijing Auto Show (see the first fair report here). There, the Chinese manufacturer Dongfeng has presented a concept car that seems to be inspired by the Tesla Cybertruck.
Sometimes Chinese car manufacturers shamelessly copy the design of iconic models. Consider, for example, this Land Rover Defender clone. Among the Dongfeng the similarities are more subtle.
Dongfeng inspired by Tesla Cybertruck
Still, the metal sheet metal, the large windshield and the sloping rear are reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck. It is also a fully electric pick-up, reportedly with an 800-volt on-board network. Other than that, very little is known about the Chinese EV.
We do see a fold-out tent mounted on the loading bed. Apart from the possibility of being somewhat sheltered on a folded down hatch, the practical use of this colossus escapes us.
Other Dongfeng looks like a budget BMW XM
This concept car may never see the asphalt. Things are different for Dongfeng M-Hero 917, this Chinese SUV also shows traits of the Tesla Cybertruck, but also of a BMW XM. Well, you gotta love it. Unlike the concept car we write about in this article, this robust-looking SUV is actually for sale.
Copycats at the Beijing Auto Show
In addition to the Chinese Tesla Cybertruck, we also came across another copycat at the Beijing Auto Show. Meet the Beijing Auto BJ40. With the exception of a few Hummer features, the designers mainly took cues from Jeep.
The brand previously also showed creative poverty with the BJ80. One look at the plagiarism bin and you know which iconic model this Chinese person wants to imitate.
