Proton Pass gets a new Pass Monitor function that automatically detects vulnerabilities in accounts and identifies any data leaks. Some parts of the feature are only available to paying subscribers.

The Pass Monitor feature for Proton Pass scans the dark web, among other things, to prevent exposure of user data. The announcement states that the user will receive a warning if it is detected that his email address has ended up in an illegal data market. This Dark Web Monitoring feature is only available to users with a paid subscription, such as Proton Plus or the Unlimited subscription that also gives access to Proton’s other services. Proton already made Dark Web Monitoring available for its Mail service last month.

In addition, Pass Monitor looks for weak and reused passwords for all users, so the user can take action to better secure accounts. Users are also shown which accounts can be secured with two-factor authentication, to motivate them to enable an extra layer of security in addition to a password.

Pass Monitor includes the Proton Sentinel feature, which was released last year by the Swiss-based company. The feature uses AI and human analysts to detect and block attacks on accounts. Proton Sentinel is only available to users with the more expensive Unlimited plan.

Proton Pass is available as an app on Windows, Android and iOS, and can be used as a web app and as a browser extension. Pass Monitor will be rolled out in phases and should be available on all devices by May 10.
