The grandmother of Jan and Monique Smit died on Tuesday at the age of 91. The two announced this on Instagram on Wednesday afternoon.
Their grandmother was featured in Jan Smit’s well-known video clip at I sing this song for you alone from 1997. ‘One day my dear grandmother told me that she was going away all alone…’ I have sung these words thousands of times over the past 27 years. With my own Grandma Jannetje as the radiant center in the video clip of 1997 I sing this song for you alone , the singer writes on Instagram. ‘Now the time has come for this grandmother to make her last journey. She passed away peacefully last night at the age of 91.”
Monique Smit, in turn, shares a series of photos with her grandmother. She also quotes the well-known song. ‘One day my dear grandmother told me that she was leaving all alone… For her very last trip, to a very beautiful paradise… Our biggest fan is no more. Rest in peace grandma,” she wrote.
Immediately after sharing the sad news, Jan and Monique were showered with messages of support. Claudia de Breij, Danny de Munck, Ruud de Wild and Mattie Valk, among others, express their condolences on the loss of their grandmother.
