Albert Verlinde (62) says he was kept awake by the criticism he received after he laughed at the alleged racist comment by Johan Derksen (75) about politician Habtamu de Hoop (25). The showbiz expert of the Netherlands sat at the table for ‘Vandaag Inside’ on Tuesday for the first time since that riot. Albert wanted to talk about the media storm, of which his good friend Beau van Erven Dorens (53) was also part of.

“There are always knives at the bottom of a drawer”

Beau discussed the infamous Today Insidebroadcast on his talk show. In it he said, among other things: “Very little happens there at the table at VI. I also looked back and people… Albert Verlinde is laughing along or something.”

Albert acknowledged on Tuesday evening that he had ‘a strange laugh’. “The only thing I’m saying here is: in a moment you decide, the way you sometimes laugh at a birthday, and then you drive home and you think: oh, that was actually a strange laugh I had there. Well, “I had that too, but what happened to me afterwards was not fun at all.”

When presenter Wilfred Genee points out Beau’s criticism, Albert says: “There are always knives at the bottom of a drawer, so people think: I’ll just grab it. That doesn’t matter. That’s the game.”

Wilfred doesn’t let go: “But you eat once in a while! That surprises me.” Albert then says that he ‘also said things’ about Beau. “You are allowed to say things to each other, right? I think that is the big problem of our time, that if you ever have something, an argument or a conflict, you should never talk to each other again. Talk to each other. That I think that’s all there is to it. That would be very cowardly.”

A report has now been filed against Johan, following his statements about De Hoop. The TV analyst does not really want to say sorry, but according to Wilfred, Johan ‘said a little sorry in his own way’. You can see more about this riot in the video below.
