Marjon and Marjon
Roelof Hemmen (61) found great happiness thirteen years ago with Marjon (58), who coincidentally has the same name as his second wife. That Marion van Rijn met Roelof at the RTL editorial office after he divorced his first wife, the mother of his son Hidde. Roelof and Marjon van Rijn crowned their love with a wedding ring and formed a happy blended family – Marjon had son Thom and daughter Lisa. But fate struck hard: in 2010, Marjon died from the effects of metastatic colon cancer. Roelof was devastated. It was Marjon’s girlfriend, also called Marjon, who offered him a comforting shoulder.
Small moments
‘We sat opposite each other at the table, took each other’s hands and suddenly a spark flew. It happened completely unexpectedly, because before that we were just friends and there was nothing between us,” he said in an earlier interview. Roelof feels blessed with Marjon and all the children and grandchildren. ‘It also gives a lot of peace. There is now a certain certainty: she is the one for me! That’s just it.’ Although they are both still working hard, they also consciously make time for each other. ‘Maybe that’s our secret. When we’re not working, I want to be with her. And she with me. We want to spend that time together. We enjoy the little moments. Sit by the fireplace with a glass of wine and a snack and have good conversations. But what’s really important in a relationship is that you give the other person the feeling that you have time for her or him. You often do that when it is necessary, but it is also nice to do it when it is not necessary.’
