Anti-star

After her final exams, a dream came true: she was admitted to the Royal Dramatic Training Academy in Stockholm. She was not there long, because in the first year, 1935, she was already asked for a role in the film Munkbrogreven (The Count of the Old Monk’s Bridge). Ingrid was called a very promising actress at the time. A year later she had her first leading role, in Intermezzo. Hollywood producer David Selznick was so lyrical about this film that he bought the rights to make an American version: Intermezzo: A Love Story. With Ingrid. But just before David finally wanted to start recording in 1939, she had doubts. Ingrid was married two years earlier to dentist Petter Lindström, with whom she had daughter Pia (now 85). Petter absolutely did not want to settle in America, so Ingrid eventually went alone. David wanted to give her a Hollywood makeover: a diet, a more commercial name and a diva appearance. But Ingrid refused. As a result, David decided to sign Ingrid for only one film and launch her as an anti-star. Pure nature and unspoiled. A unique experience in Hollywood history, which he did not regret!
