King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have begun their first state visit. The Dannebrog anchored this morning in Stockholm where they were received by King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
And because it is a ‘major’ state visit, between two reigning monarchies that also represent neighboring countries, have family ties and are friends, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and her husband Prince Daniel were also present for the reception.
Vic likes pink, but can sometimes make a mistake in terms of nuance. However, this Christer Lindarw was a bull’s eye. Nice that in the week of the Eurovision Song Contest that embraces everything and everyone, she wears a Swedish designer who is also known as a drag queen entertainer.
Queen Mary
Mary wore her Mark Kenly Domino Tan dress with a dark blue hat from Jane Taylor for the day’s program. The elegant wrap is a good idea that she adopted from Queen Máxima.

Estelle (in a pink By Malina) and Oscar greeted guests with homemade Danish flags on the palace balcony, as Victoria assisted in 1985 during the visit of Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

In the palace they had their picture taken together with Princess Estelle (in a pink By Malina) and Prince Oscar who had been given some time off from school. Mary is the godmother of Estelle and Frederik of Oscar. On the left, Princess Sofia of Sweden in a sassy Veronica Virta button-down dress that she had made a little longer, the original being a mini dress.
Warm words
Danish King Frederik has been very much looking forward to his first state visit to Sweden. In a speech at the royal palace in Stockholm, Frederik called it “a great start to a new chapter.”
“Here in Sweden we are abroad, but still at home,” Frederik said, among other things. “We have a lot in common. But we also have a lot to give each other. Today and tomorrow Mary and I get a taste of what Sweden has to offer. We are looking forward to.”
Frederik (55) also directly addressed Swedish King Carl Gustaf (78). “You are now the longest-serving monarch in Europe. I am currently the shortest serving. But regardless of the period, none of us are alone. Thank you for inviting us at short notice for our first visit as a royal couple and for receiving us so warmly.”
Carl Gustaf also gave a welcome speech. “We are not just neighbors and friends, we are family. My aunt and your grandmother, Queen Ingrid, was a unifying force and a symbol of tradition and innovation. She played an important role in promoting the relationship between our countries,” the Swedish king said. He also said that the resigned Queen Margrethe has meant a lot to him over the years. “Now I look forward to a new fruitful collaboration with King Frederik.”
State banquet
For the state banquet, Queen Mary wore Jesper Høvring. She already had the skirt, she had a new top made for it. Now that’s a smart approach to couture.
She wore her hair surprisingly loose, she usually tends to keep it pinned up quite neatly.
The risk of putting up loosely is that the wind has free rein and some things still need to be smoothed out.
In terms of tiara, Mary did not opt for the pearl parure, but for the one with the rubies that she has worn before. ‘Don’t throw everything out at once on the first state visit’, she must have thought and to be honest: the design with the leaves matched her dress beautifully.
Queen Silvia wore a green dress from her favorite label Georg et Arend in combination with the Leuchtenberg tiara with sapphires, once made by Napoleon’s court jeweler. The Swedish queen is not one to hold back at a state banquet, she understands the importance of the fairy tale.
Crown Princess Victoria
Crown Princess Victoria chose another Christer Lindarw dress with the Connaught Diamond tiara, a loopy case with diamonds in the shape of forget-me-nots that jingles a little when the wearer walks with it.
Princess Sofia
And Princess Sofia put her romantic Ida Lanto on repeat, with her Palmettes wedding tiara.
