Spanish prosecutors have asked the judge to drop a second tax fraud case against Shakira. The case revolves around alleged tax fraud in 2018, but the judiciary does not have enough evidence for this.

Prosecutors started the case against Shakira after the singer was also prosecuted for tax fraud between 2012 and 2014. They have now concluded that they cannot prove the fraud in 2018. A judge must now decide whether the case will continue.

Shakira was suspected of evading taxes while living in Spain with her then-boyfriend, footballer Gerard Piqué. Shakira is said to have defrauded the Spanish tax authorities of 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014. She reached a settlement in this case at the end of last year, which allowed her to avoid a possible prison sentence.

In the first case, the Colombian initially had to pay a fine of more than 23 million euros and spend a minimum of eight years in prison. Due to the settlement she reached last year, the fine was reduced to around 7 million euros and Shakira only had to serve three years in prison. By paying an additional fine of 432,000 euros, she avoided jail time completely.
