Galerie T pays tribute to Middelburg and the city’s entrepreneurs

Do you know what you can do this afternoon (or on another day, in May)? Visit Galerie-T!

An ode to Middelburg

You could say that gallery owner Lia Hector pays tribute to the city and to the entrepreneurs of Middelburg with the new exhibitions. She has been saying for years that our shops and monuments are also culture. You hear her say it more than once in conversations: galleries cannot do without shops, shops cannot do without catering, and so on. The city? We are that together!

15 entrepreneurs

In the gallery you can now see all kinds of special items from the collections of 15 different stores. From a beautiful dress by Sebastian den Herder to unique shoes from ‘the archive’ by Etienne van der Sloot. In the basement you will see hats from Boutique aan de Dam, but also a tribute to Stripwinkel Perron 2. We will just mention a few things. In any case: Lia can tell something about all the pieces, full of enthusiasm and commitment. She is already thinking about a sequel, because she actually thinks she should put many more entrepreneurs in the spotlight.

Now we knew that Lia would also use texts and images from our website for this exhibition, but when we saw the result we were still surprised. Here and there there are complete, printed blog posts with the items in stores, and Lia has had a number of photos printed on canvas.

We are The City itself is also put in the spotlight. How sweet! That piece is a reference to that beautiful night in April 2019, when Sjer Jacobs’ art was placed in the canal at Rondvaart Middelburg.

But there is much more to see in the Gallery. From a photo by RK Photography to work by Gydon, a designer/artist who has only just come to live and work in Middelburg.

Oud Hout, by Anneke Treurniet

To top it all off, there will also be an exhibition by Anneke Treurniet, entitled ‘Oud Hout’, on view until the end of June. Insane! When Anneke stopped working at JA bags and the store moved to Gortstraat, there was quite a bit of wood left in the buildings in Segeersstraat. Anneke has made the most beautiful creations from that. Owls, mice and dogs for example. “An exhibition with a maximum of 5 euros in material costs,” Anneke joked yesterday.

Anneke is also there this afternoon, in the gallery. Then you can ask her anything about her work. A great opportunity, because she doesn’t have a real studio. She made furniture for Ja Tassen, but it remains to be seen whether she will pick it up again. This exhibition is actually a kind of snack. Anneke enjoys working with Lia and vice versa. And she’s just very creative. She once made those birdhouses in the Segeersstraat, for example.

In short: on to the Vismarkt! If not today, then soon!
