Princess Alexia is still in her gap year, but does not yet have an answer to the question of what she will do next. “I will let you know when I know,” said the second daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima in Emmen.
The princess has traveled the world in the past year, she said after King’s Day in Emmen. The royal family briefly stood the NOS to speak. “I have been very fortunate to be able to travel a lot, get to know other cultures. And above all, to be busy with something other than school.”
Asked whether she was really ready for that – not being busy with school for a while – the eighteen-year-old princess did not really answer. She did say that in addition to traveling, she has also worked. “In such a gap year, every moment is special and I really enjoyed everything.”
Alexia has not yet decided what she will study. “I’ll let you know when I know.”
Her parents also have no idea, the king confirmed. “We won’t know until she knows. We leave it completely to our daughter. She has such an incredibly broad interest that it can go in any direction. So I also wait in anticipation to see what she ultimately chooses.”
