The reboot of the hit series The Karate Kidstarring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, has been delayed until May 2025. The film was scheduled to hit theaters in December 2024.

Producer Sony has decided to postpone because of the production of the final season of the series Cobra Kaia spin-off from The Karate Kid, had been delayed by the writers and actors’ strike in Hollywood. The final episodes of this season will now air in the spring. After that the new movie will be released. That reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The relaunch of the series on the big screen is about an Asian-American teenager (Ben Wang) who discovers that he was born for the martial arts. 62-year-old Ralph Macchio plays Daniel LaRusso, the role he first played in the original The Karate Kid from 1984. Macchio then played the role in three sequels and recently in the series Cobra Kai.

Seventy-year-old Chan played Mr Han in the previous reboot of the 2010 film series, the mentor of the teenager played by Jaden Smith who takes up martial arts in that film. He also plays this role again in the new film.
