A toddler in North Carolina who complained for months about monsters in her bedroom turned out not to have an overzealous imagination after all. A beekeeper discovered a huge bee nest between the walls.

The bees had managed to slip through a small hole in the air vent in the attic. There they started a nest that eventually reached all the way to the bedroom of the three-year-old Saylor Class.

The toddler’s complaints about monsters in the wall were dismissed as imagination by the child’s parents. Until they saw more and more bees around the chimney outside. An insect killer could not help them, as they turned out to be protected honey bees.

A beekeeper therefore had to be involved to locate the nest and relocate the bees. He said he removed between 55,000 and 65,000 bees. In addition, another 45 kilos of bee comb had to be removed, writes BBC News.

The family estimates that the equivalent of 18,700 euros in damage was caused. Not only because walls had to be broken open, but also because of damage to the cabling. The damage will not be reimbursed because, according to the insurer, it could have been prevented.
