Eric Corton’s hearing is deteriorating rapidly. KINK-dj writes this on Instagram. “After more than thirty years of working in live music, various types of radio and other noisy professions, I have reached the point where I increasingly ask ‘huh, what?’ have to say.”

“The TV always has to be a little louder and my iPhone warns about the volume of my EarPods four times a week. But the worst thing is that I can no longer distinguish head and noise in noisy conditions. NICE noisy circumstances such as a dinner or a party. And that is not only FUCKING annoying but also exhausting.”

Full power

Eric writes that he realizes that he has not been careful with his ears “and still doesn’t really do that. With my bands we always rehearsed in a 5 by 5 room at full power. At least 110 dB for hours on end. On stage my monitoring was on deaf, deaf, deafest and afterwards the local DJ stepped it up while I tidied up my stuff. In addition, more than 15 years of making radio with headphones on your head while blood comes out of your ear. Even on Radio 1 that thing was too loud. Concerts and festivals without hearing protection.”

After a hearing test, the DJ appears to have a drop of 40 decibels in both ears. “And that is in principle enough to start thinking about support. But I think that is quite a step after the glasses.” He asks about experiences with hearing support via his Instagram.
