The hit series Baby Reindeer, in which comedian Richard Gadd is stalked by lawyer Martha for an extended period of time, is completely wrong. This was what Fiona Harvey, the alleged stalker on whom the show is said to be based, claimed in an interview with Piers Morgan on Thursday evening. She stated that Gadd made up the story and was obsessed with her himself. “I think he has serious psychological problems.”
It was not actually the intention that it would ever come to light who voiced the ‘real’ Martha Baby Reindeer would be. The Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, who wrote the series based on what had happened to him and decided to play the leading role himself, said she had adapted so much to her character that she would not even recognize herself. There was a reason for that: Gadd didn’t want to make things more difficult for his stalker. “So you have to change things to protect yourself and other people,” he told Variety.

But ‘the ‘real’ Martha did not remain a secret. Viewers of the series were so absorbed by the story that they started looking for answers themselves. And so, in no time, Fiona Harvey’s account was found, on which all kinds of messages from 2014 can be found that match the texts shown in the series. She is said to be the woman who stalked Richard Gadd for years: she stalked him, showed up at his shows, threatened his parents and attacked his dates. Chilling detail: ‘Martha’ is said to have addressed no fewer than 41,071 emails, 350 hours of voicemails, 744 tweets, 46 Facebook messages and 106 pages of letters to Gadd. In those messages, she affectionately referred to him as “baby reindeer‘.
Although Gadd did not want to reveal her identity, Fiona Harvey decided to seek out the media herself due to all the commotion. She appeared on Thursday evening in the YouTube talk show of British presenter Piers Morgan and stated that she had no choice because viewers had tracked her down online and she had received many ‘death threats’ against her. “It’s been horrible,” she told Morgan.

Moreover, according to Harvey, Gadd is said to have made up the ‘true’ story. “Only two things are true: his name is Richard Gadd and he worked as a bartender. We only met two or three times,” argued Harvey, who said he never stalked him. She also denied having been to his home and would never have sent Gadd so many messages. “I don’t think I sent him anything. Maybe just some funny emails, but that was at most ten and certainly not 41,000.”
Harvey referred even more claims from the series to the realm of fables: she would never have touched Gadd’s partner with a finger and was never convicted of stalking. “He lies, and they (Netflix, ed.) lie. They labeled it as a true story and it’s not. It’s clearly not.” According to Harvey, Gadd himself had ‘serious psychological problems’ and had only one goal: to defame her.
If Harvey could turn back time with today’s knowledge, she would have made a completely different choice at the time, she told Morgan. “Then I would never have visited that bar.”
Harvey said he plans to take legal action against Gadd. She also claimed to have never been contacted by Gadd or Netflix for rebuttal. “I wouldn’t sue them if I didn’t tell the truth.”
