That was already the case when I was in high school, and I am now 40+.
Had a computer science teacher who had written and published his own book and was so proud that every definition other than word-for-word from his book was memorized and was left with a big scratch on every test.*

At one point we (finally…) received practical instructions for actual programming work. The gentleman was firmly convinced that it was impossible to get bold text on the screen with Quick-BASIC (because, damn, that was still what was taught at the time…).

My response: “really!”
His response: “oh yeah, let’s see then”

Yes; He was indeed able to see that 30 meters later in the full regard of everyone in the class…
Hey; too bad. You brought that on yourself.

I and two others were allowed to skip that chapter of practical instruction at that time.
Cq. he just wanted us away so we couldn’t contradict him.

*) “A chip is a small disk of silicon in a casing with metal contact points in which an electronic circuit is incorporated.” I still know him, yuck!
